In 1999, my 14th year as a tenor with Leeds Festival Chorus, I sang with the male voices of the Chorus at the BBC Proms, in Shostakovich’s 13th Symphony ‘Babi Yar’. Then in 2001 the whole chorus performed at the Proms in a programme of Verdi operatic music under Mark Elder. This post is an excuse to show my photo of the Albert Hall reflected in the window of our coach.
A recent highlight with LFC – plus several other choirs and a huge orchestra – was Mahler’s Eighth Symphony, the “Symphony of a Thousand” – at Manchester’s Bridgewater Hall in 2019, in celebration of the 50th anniversary of Chetham’s School of Music.
My final concert was Walton’s amazing “Belshazzar’s Feast” at Sheffield City Halls, June 2022.
